Construction Zone

This weekend a group of St. Paul youth will attending Construction Zone a youth gathering for Sr. High youth. The bands are Tree 63, Captive Free West Lakes, and Peter Eide. Our speaker is John Nunes who led the Bible studies at our LCMS National Youth Gathering, and I thought did a great job. We're also excited to see all the friends we've made over the years from other Youth Encounter events. You can find out more about Construction Zone here. I'll post next week on how it went.

Lenten Service Project

We have collected over 300 items for our Lenten service project and they've been big items too. (Huge cans of sauce, Large bags of beans and pasta). The collection will last up until Easter. The food & other items will St. Matthew's Soup Kitchen in Chicago and Respond Now in Chicago Heights. There are dropoff tables in the narthex and in the lower level of the education building.

Here is a list of each organization's biggest needs.

St. Matthew’s biggest needs are

Tomato Sauce in big cans
Cups, Plate, Napkins
Aluminum Foil
Canned Vegetables, Dried Pinto Beans, Canned Soup
Corn Oil
Pasta

Respond Now’s biggest needs are

Personal Items (toothpaste, deodorant, toilet paper)
Canned food items (especially canned meats)

Making a Difference Newsletter

One of the organizations that we have had a great partnership with at St. Paul has been Lutheran Church Charities. There is a group of about 20 of us that is participating in their Word Among Us Cover to Cover Bible Study, and I think that as we've gone through it we've started to see things in the Bible that we may not have not seen before and have grown in our understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and what it means to be a follower in His kingdom.

We've also participated with through their various social ministries. They have a great newsletter and devotional that they send out weekly highlighting ways that you can give to those in need.
